Dr. James Schnable is an Associate Professor and the Gardner Professor of Maize Quantitative Genetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research group focuses on integrating new technologies and capabilities from engineering, computer science, and statistics to address genetic and genomic questions in maize and sorghum Prof. Schnable holds a BA in Biology from Cornell University and a PhD in Plant Biology from UC-Berkeley. In addition to his academic work, he has been involved in founding companies providing genotyping and breeding decision support services, breeding naturally water use efficient crops, and commercializing nutrient sensors to guide fertilizer applications.
